What’s going to happen in the 2016 NCAA Tournament National Championship? Check out the Fearless Prediction and breakdown for Villanova vs. North Carolina

How are the predictions in the 2016 NCAA Tournament?

Total Tournament Predictions: 45-21 SU, 39-26-1 ATS

No. 1 North Carolina (33-6) vs. No. 2 Villanova (34-5)

Why North Carolina Will Win: Can the depth of the Tar Heels overcome the red hot Wildcats inside?

UNC can’t shoot from three, but it just doesn’t seem to matter with the way the interior passing comes up with easy scores time after time throughout the tournament and through the back half of the regular season. The Syracuse 2-3 zone is built to keep teams from being able to keep offenses away from the rim, but it just didn’t matter with the way the Tar Heels moved the ball at will.

Fourth in the nation in assists, this is an unselfish and efficient team that always seems able to calmly and coolly stop any run with the extra pass and the extra play. Making matters worse, Villanova just isn’t good enough on the boards to slow down the waves of Tar Heels who are always around the rim – the second chance points will be huge in UNC’s favor.

Why Villanova Will Win: The Wildcat defense is playing at a whole other level right now.

Granted, shooting in NRG Stadium is an issue, but it didn’t seem to bother Villanova who hit 11-of-18 while shocking the high-powered OU shooters into a 6-of-27 night. Syracuse couldn’t get the outside shot to fall early against the Tar Heels, but Villanova has proven time and again that it has no problems cranking up the offense early. If it gets going right away like it did against the Sooners, this should be a shootout that doesn’t slow down. Villanova can keep up the pace.

Try to forget about the 83-66 final score – Syracuse had its chance to hang around with the Tar Heels, and it blew it because it couldn’t hit free throws.

The Orange made just 4-of-13, crushing momentum during empty trips that proved fatal. Villanova hasn’t always been flawless on the line – it missed 5-of-19 against the Sooners – but overall on the season it’s No. 2 in the nation hitting over 78% of its tries. Carolina won’t get the same breaks it got in the semifinal.

What’s Going To Happen: As it turns out, North Carolina is the absolute perfect team for this particular Final Four. Again, Villanova didn’t have a problem from the outside in its game, but it’s asking way too much to get the same production twice in the building – especially against a long and tough defense like UNC’s.

Not having to rely on the outside shot is a godsend, doing more to work in the interior. Villanova will adjust to what went wrong for Syracuse, but it won’t be enough. This tournament was over from the start – North Carolina is the best team, and it’s about to show it with one last emphatic statement. The Wildcats are playing well; the Tar Heels are playing better.
