NCAA Tournament Projections As of March 8

    March 8, 2023

Welcome to Championship Week! With Selection Sunday right around the corner, teams are making their final case to be included in the field of 68.

Let’s look at my final bracket before Sunday.

It’s been a while since the top line of the bracket has had this much drama just a few days away from Selection Sunday. The committee revealed their top 16 in February, giving us the top seeds in the order of No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Houston, No. 3 Purdue and No. 4 Kansas.

Since then, Purdue has lost some games, which is why top-notch wins by Kansas have propelled the Jayhawks past Purdue. But has Kansas done enough to pass Houston and Alabama? No one can touch the incredible volume of wins that the Jayhawks have compiled in Quad One. But are those victories enough to overcome the incredible metrics Houston has compiled along with their impressive record of 29-2?

You might say, “What’s the big difference between being an overall No. 2 or 3?” Usually, not much. But this year is different.

If Houston is the overall No. 2, they would get their choice of region to play in. The Cougars would most likely choose Kansas City, which is by far the next closest region to Houston’s campus. Of course, just being a few miles away, KU would love to get to Kansas City.

With 15 Quad One wins, I have Kansas just edging Houston. And in turn, I have Alabama topping Kansas, partly on the strength of Alabama having the best win of the bunch by handing Houston one of their two losses.

This will be my last bracket until my final prediction on Selection Sunday. Follow me on Twitter @tkbrackets all week long as I give you updates up and down the bracket as tournament results come in.
