Week 15 NCAA basketball rankings for the 2015-16 season. The entire AP Top 25 was put through the ringer in an up-and-down week.
February 15, 2016It shouldn’t come as any surprise that more than a few ranked teams were handed losses last week — some of them more than one.
Four teams in the top five all suffered defeats. The No. 1-ranked Villanova Wildcats were the only one to not come up short. They picked up wins against DePaul and St. John’s.
The primetime rematch between Oklahoma and Kansas was another thriller. A slow start from Buddy Hield was eventually erased, but the Sooners couldn’t top the Jayhawks in Norman, Okla.
Below are the power rankings for Week 15 of college basketball season.
Bill Self’s squad handled the No. 10-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers with a 75-65 win on Tuesday. The Jayhawks’ real test was on the road Saturday in Oklahoma, but they managed to beat the Sooners, 76-72, to sweep Oklahoma in the regular season.
The Sooners may have allowed Kansas to come into Norman, Okla. and steal a win, but Oklahoma did pick up at least one victory last week. The Sooners snuck past No. 24-ranked Texas on Tuesday, 63-60.
The Wildcats were on top of the AP Top 25 for the first time this season last week, and they got things started with a win against DePaul on Tuesday, 86-59. Villanova wrapped up the week by taking down St. John’s on Saturday, 73-63.
The Tar Heels were given a run for their money by Boston College on Tuesday but still came out on top with a 68-65 win. North Carolina finished off the week on Valentine’s Day with an 85-64 win over Pitt in the Dean Dome.
The Terps began last week with a great start picking up a 93-62 victory against Bowie State on Tuesday, but things took a turn later on. Maryland faced Wisconsin Saturday, and the Badgers stole a 70-57 win on the road.
The Musketeers didn’t exactly enjoy last Tuesday as they fell on the road to Creighton, 70-56. Xavier got back on the right track on Saturday, taking down Butler on the road, 74-57.
It was a pretty rough Wednesday last week for the Hawkeyes, who were taken down on the road by Indiana, 85-78. Iowa then went back home on Sunday and nearly gave one away against Minnesota but managed to hold out for the 75-71 win.
After a phenomenal start to the season, the Spartans have been on a roller coaster ride. Michigan State fell on the road to Purdue, 82-81, but it would get better. The Spartans went back home to East Lansing, Mich. and beat Indiana on Sunday, 88-69.
The Hurricanes were given a test by Pitt on Tuesday but still came out on top, 65-63. Miami then squared off against in-state rival Florida State on Sunday and took down the Seminoles, 67-65, to cap off the week.
The Cavaliers took down Virginia Tech, 67-49, on Tuesday. But the week wouldn’t be all fun and games. Virginia played Duke on Saturday, and a Grayson Allen circus shot gave the Blue Devils the win, 63-62.
