National Signing Day is quickly approaching. Here are 5 important recruiting battles to keep an eye on.

With National Signing Day quickly approaching, here are 10 recruiting battles to keep an eye on.

As the days wind down and the recruits try to make up their minds, coaches are scurrying from place to place, from home to home pitching their programs.

But it’s not just a matter of trying to convince the recruits to commit. It’s not just an issue of selling the mothers and fathers on the idea their sons will be in good hands.

Coaches are also up against all the other coaches and recruiters who are trying to reel in the same recruits to their respective schools.

So as we get closer to National Signing Day, let’s look at the recruits causing the most competition. Below are five recruiting battles to watch from now until Wednesday, Feb. 3.

    5. Brian Burns: Florida, Florida State and Georgia

The 4-star defensive end has been highly sought after, and Florida seemed to be the leader to land his commitment for a while. But Florida State has made significant progress, and had National Signing Day occurred two weeks ago, he very well could have been a Seminole. Georgia is still pushing hard, but Gators defensive line coach Chris Rumph still has time to sell him on Florida.

    4. Kristian Fulton: LSU and Florida

It felt as though Les Miles had the Tigers set as a clear-cut lock to land the 4-star cornerback from Metairie, La. But Florida is not going down without a fight. LSU, historically, holds onto its backyard talent, but the Gators are a legitimate threat to get Kristian Fulton into orange and blue. With Fulton setting his last official visit before National Signing Day in Gainesville, Fla., it isn’t crazy to think he’ll be a Gator instead of a Tiger.

    3. Brandon Jones: Texas A&M and Texas

It’s Charlie Strong vs. Kevin Sumlin, and it’s a recruiting battle we should be breaking out the popcorn to watch. Brandon Jones is considered a heavy lean to Texas A&M, but don’t count out Strong and the Longhorns. There’s still time to sway the 5-star safety to play in Austin, Texas. While the gut feeling here says Jones will be an Aggie, it’s probably going to be close.

    2. Nate Craig-Myers: Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss, UNC and Florida State

He went from being an Auburn commit to a Florida lock — and now a complete wild card. While it’s not a package deal with his brother, 4-star cornerback Jayvaughn Myers, you have to imagine coaches are playing their hands carefully with both. Jayvaughn was once a Florida commit, but it seems likely he’ll end up a Seminole. Nate Craig-Myers would probably fit best with Ole Miss because of Laquon Treadwell’s departure, but he could fit just as well with Florida and stay closer to home.

    1. Ben Davis: Alabama and Georgia

If you haven’t seen Ben Davis play, kick your feet up and enjoy the early scenes of a running back’s horror film. Alabama appeared to be in the driver’s seat to land Davis, but the 5-star linebacker has been showing a lot of interest in Georgia — thanks to Kirby Smart. He’ll likely be a defensive anchor for years at either school, but this one is going to come down to a Nick Saban vs. Smart battle — student vs. the master.
