To say that Nate Craig-Myers runs like a gazelle would be a tremendous compliment to gazelles everywhere. You’d like to see him go up and attack the ball at its highest point more, but he has a smooth handle of the ball and strong hands. He’s most effective out on the edge and can destroy secondaries in the screen game. As he starts to learn and find comfort with slower developing routes, he’ll become even more of a lethal weapon. His speed and acceleration can scare defensive coordinators everywhere.
Craig-Myers’ half brother, Jayvaughn Myers, a 4-star cornerback, was once committed to Florida, but the likelihood he goes back to the Gators is unlikely at this point. That doesn’t mean much for Craig-Myers though. The Gators have made it clear he’s a priority.
He was once committed to Auburn, but he backed off that pledge in May. With the way things are looking right now, it doesn’t appear that he’ll end up with the Tigers, who also have 4-star wide receiver Eli Stove committed. However, anything is possible.
Maryland is a dark horse at this point, but Craig-Myers is intrigued by the idea of playing with Dwayne Haskins Jr., a 4-star quarterback from Potomac, Md. Ole Miss is also in the running. Hugh Freeze needs a young playmaker to come in and stretch the field, and he’s hoping Craig-Myers is that guy.
As far as size goes, Craig-Myers is built just like Laquon Treadwell. He’s 6-foot-2, 205 lbs. In terms of football, Treadwell was a little more explosive coming out of high school, but Craig-Myers isn’t far behind. He’s the kind of guy you want to get the football to early and often because of his playmaking ability. He’s a matchup nightmare for any cornerback and is supremely dangerous in the open field.
We all saw the kinds of things that Treadwell was able to do with Ole Miss, and that was without an elite quarterback running the offense. With 5-star quarterback Shea Patterson heading to Oxford, Miss., the best fit for Craig-Myers may be the Rebels. Hugh Freeze will tailor the offense to get him the ball out on ther perimeter. Craig-Myers will set up on the outside. He’ll run routes out of the slot. He’ll get the ball on sweeps. It would be a dynamic system for Craig-Myers to develop in.
Jim McElwain wants to open up the offense and start playing catch a little bit more down the sidelines. And Florida fans are eager to see that happen as well. The running game will still be a big part of the gameplan, but Craig-Myers can find a home for himself with the Gators. After the explosive year Antonio Callaway had as a true freshman, and with 4-star quarterback Feleipe Franks fighting for early playing time at quarterback, Craig-Myers can walk into Gainesville, Fla. and be an elite weapon from day one.
