Mountain West Tournament: Wyoming vs. Utah State prediction and online live stream information for Wednesday's opening round matchup between the Cowboys and Aggies.
March 8, 2016The 2016 Mountain West Tournament will kick off Wednesday with the No. 8 seed Wyoming taking on the No. 9 seed Utah State at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
The Cowboys (14-17, 7-11 MW) ended their regular season on a high note last Wednesday, defeating the San Jose State Spartans, 81-78. The two squads jostled for the lead all night, until Wyoming grabbed it for good on a Josh Adams free throw with less than three minutes to play. The Cowboys made timely shots and were able to stop the Spartans when they needed to, locking up the win on Senior Day.
The Aggies (15-14, 7-11 MW) could not extend their win streak to three games as they fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs by a single point on Saturday. Utah State led by nine at half, but Fresno furiously fought back to take a three-point lead with six seconds left. Jalen Moore was fouled on a three-point attempt, but missed the last of his three free throws, giving the Aggies a crushing, 86-85 loss..
Wednesday afternoon’s matchup will be the second meeting of the season and the 74th all-time between Wyoming and Utah State. The Cowboys took the previous matchup this season 84-65 on Feb. 6 and buried a school-record 20 three-pointers. The winner of this game will face the San Diego State Aztecs in the next round on Thursday.
Below is everything you need to know about the matchup, including the Wyoming vs. Utah State prediction, online live stream, and game notes.
The Aggies will put up a good fight, but newly crowned Mountain West Player of the Year Josh Adams will not be denied. At least not in the first round.
Wyoming splashed a school-record twenty three-pointers last time they met up with Utah State. To say they’ll hit 20 again would be a stretch, but unless the Aggies perimeter defense undergoes a rapid transformation, look for the Cowboys to have success beyond the arc. Adams has been a force to be reckoned with all season, but has taken it to another level as of late, averaging 30.8 points over his last four games. It’s win or go home time for the senior, so expect him to get the job done.
