Mountain West Tournament: UNLV vs. Air Force prediction and online live stream information for Wednesday's opening round matchup between the Rebels and Falcons.
March 8, 2016The second Mountain West Tournament game of the day Wednesday will feature the No. 7 seed UNLV Rebels against the No. 10 seed Air Force Falcons in the opening round.
The Rebels (17-14, 8-10 MW) played inconsistently down the stretch of the regular season and capped it off with a 92-56 blowout loss to San Diego State Saturday night. UNLV held an early lead, but San Diego State caught fire from outside, which sparked a 15-2 run to put them up big. The Aztecs led by 15 at half and kept that momentum rolling in the second half to earn the easy win.
The Falcons (14-17, 5-13 MW) could not put an end to their two-game slide as they fell 87-73 to Colorado State Saturday night. It was a low scoring affair in early, but the Falcons managed to snag a three-point lead at halftime, but the Rams exploded for 68 second-half points and left Air Force in their dust.
Wednesday’s matchup will be the third of the season between UNLV and Air Force, with the Rebels leading the overall series 33-12. It’s the rubber game in the season set and the winner will take on Fresno State in the next round.
Below is everything you need to know about the matchup, including the UNLV vs. Air Force prediction, online live stream, and game notes.
UNLV might be playing at home, but is only dressing five scholarship players. Doesn’t matter who you are, when you’re that shorthanded in March, games become much more difficult to win.
Look for the Falcons to take advantage of the Rebels’ lack of depth by making this one an up-tempo affair. Trevor Lyons and Zach Kocur will need to attack inside to wear down the UNLV bigs, creating some foul trouble. The Rebels also have to be mindful of the kick out to Hayden Graham, who is shooting 40 percent from downtown this season. The Rebels will hang tough in their building, but will ultimately wither late as the Falcons will advance with the upset win.
