Mitchell Wasson decommitted from Alabama to open his recruitment back up with a couple SEC teams in the mix.
Alabama’s 2016 recruiting class, thought to be locked up, just took a bit of a hit.
Three-star kicker Mitchell Wasson, who committed to the Crimson Tide as a preferred walk-on, decided to open his recruitment back up on Tuesday. The Marietta, Ga. native announced his decision in a message on Twitter.
The decommitment leaves Alabama without a kicker in the 2016 class after Eddy Pineiro flipped to the Florida Gators in December.
For Wasson, there are some options on the table. Both Georgia and Florida had interest before he committed to Alabama. And while the Gators have the position locked up it appears as though the Bulldogs could be in contention again. Wasson hopes to make a decision by the end of the week.
Rutgers could be Georgia’s main competition, as the Scarlet Knights are also in the mix to land Wasson. They could have a leg up by offering him a scholarship out of high school.
