    Why You Need To Care

It was a tough September for Arkansas going 1-3 with losses to Toledo and Texas Tech along the way, but everything started to come together soon after. The team has gone 5-1 since with two scintillating overtime wins over Auburn and Ole Miss along the way, and last week it came up with its best performance of the season – considering the opponent – rocking LSU 31-14. If the Hogs can close out with wins over Mississippi State and Missouri, they’ll be the second-best team in the SEC West, the season will have completely turned around, and the expectations will be through the roof going into next year.

Mississippi State is a good team with a nice schedule. Wins over Missouri, Kentucky, and Auburn were nice, but in the three big games against LSU, at Texas A&M and Alabama, the team just wasn’t up to snuff. Beating Arkansas on the road this week, and taking care of Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl, would change everything back around and make this an even better year, even though, considering the preseason expectations, this has been a strong season already.

    Why Mississippi State Will Win

The defense has been good enough to at least hold serve so that Dak Prescott can get up and do his thing Yeah, giving up over 200 yards on the ground to both Missouri and Alabama in the last two weeks isn’t a positive, but overall the front seven has been a plus on the year, while the secondary has been terrific. Arkansas is starting to run the ball at a high level again, and MSU has to be ready to get nailed for at least five yards per carry, but if it can make the attack one dimensional, and if Prescott can crank the offense up against an awful Hog pass defense, this will be a battle through four quarters.

    Why Arkansas Will Win

Oh yeah, the running game. Yes, the Bulldog run defense has been excellent at times throughout the year, but it didn’t face too many killer attacks. All the teams that could run – LSU, Auburn and Alabama – got their 200 yards. Arkansas got the machine rolling against LSU last week with 299 brutish yards and three touchdowns, averaging 7.5 yards per pop, for the third time in four games with over 200 yards, and the sixth time in the last eight games. Expect at least 200 yards on the ground, and then go from there.

    Player Who Matters

Alex Collins is on a tear. It’s impossible for a running back to get noticed in the SEC this season with Leonard Fournette and Derrick Henry doing wonders, but Collins is doing everything he’s supposed to as the main man for a great ground game. The nice part about his season is that he’s not being worn to a nub – like Bret Bielema tended to do with his Wisconsin backs. He hasn’t carried the ball more than 17 times in any of the last three games, but he’s tearing off yards in chunks as the offensive line is burying tired defenses trying to get through November. Last year Collins ran for 93 yards and a score. This time around, he’ll get over the 100-yard mark.

    What’s Going To Happen?

This is going to be a terrific game. Dak Prescott will be fantastic, the Arkansas offense will hum, and it’ll be a back-and-forth battle with QB Brandon Allen having enough moments to balance out the attack. Each team will have several chances to take control, but Arkansas won’t be able to do it until late.
