The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.

    Resume

    Team: Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

    Record:
    24-9

    Conference:
    Conference USA

    Head coach:
    Kermit Davis

    How they got here:
     Won conference tournament

    The Good

Balance is the name of the game for the Blue Raiders, who feature four players who average double figures in scoring and four guys who grab at least four rebounds a game. Nobody on the team averages more than 2.2 assists, but six out of the seven rotation players hand out between 1.4 and 2.2 assists a night. Giddy Potts is the team’s leading scorer and is a sharpshooter from the perimeter, and Reggie Upshaw can do a little bit of everything on the floor.

    The Bad

This is another mid-major team with nice balance in the starting lineup and a bench that is as shaky as possible. Beyond the starting five, there just isn’t much for head coach Kermit Davis to turn to, and he has to play his starters a lot of minutes. The rotation does go eight deep, but the back end of that simply isn’t all that productive.

    Prediction

If Middle Tennessee can control the tempo and get its opponent into foul trouble, it might have a shot at pulling off an upset. That said, the Blue Raiders don’t have the size to hang with the big boys, and this is a team that will be an early out.
