Michigan State vs. Ohio State prediction, online live stream and TV broadcast information for Saturday's regular season finale between the Spartans and Buckeyes.
March 4, 2016The No. 2 Michigan State Spartans will welcome the Ohio State Buckeyes to East Lansing, Mich. on Saturday as they bid Denzel Valentine and Bryn Forbes ‘goodbye’ on Senior Day.
The Spartans (25-5, 12-5 Big Ten) have played extremely well since their Feb. 9 loss to Purdue, winning five straight games, including a 97-66 beatdown of Rutgers Wednesday night. Michigan State and Rutgers jostled in the first half, but Forbes sunk a three just before halftime to grab a 43-41 lead. The Spartans exerted their dominance out of the gate in the second half, as they went on a 20-3 run and essentially coasted the rest of the way to lock up the win. Michigan State was plus-26 in the rebounding category, including a stunning 23 offensive rebounds. The Spartans also drowned the Scarlet Knights with their shooting, as they shot 51.7 percent from downtown and 48.7 percent overall. Forbes accounted for 11 of Michigan State’s 16 three-pointers, which set a Big Ten single-game record. The senior guard finished with a team-high 33 points in 27 minutes of action.
The Buckeyes (19-11, 11-6 Big Ten) are looking to finish the season on a high note as they make their case for an NCAA Tournament bid. Ohio State has played well down the stretch, winning five of its last six games with its only loss during that span being against the Spartans on Feb. 23. Last time out, the Buckeyes upset then-No. 8 Iowa, 68-64. In a close game throughout, Ohio State grabbed the lead on a Kam Williams jumper and held on to earn the win. The Hawkeyes held a small edge on the glass, but Ohio State shot better from the stripe (81.3 percent), three-point range (27.8 percent) and from the field (44.6), which made the difference. Marc Loving led the Buckeyes with 25 points, going 4-of-6 fro downtown, but it was Williams’ 11 points off the bench that was crucial to the Buckeyes’ upset.
Saturday’s regular season finale will mark the 127th meeting between Michigan State and Ohio State. The Spartans lead the series, 69-57, and they won the previous meeting this year, 81-62, on Feb. 23 in Columbus, Ohio.
Below is everything you need to know about the matchup, including the Michigan State vs. Ohio State prediction, online live stream and TV broadcast info, and game notes.
There’s a lot at stake in this one as Michigan State is vying for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, while Ohio State needs a big win to make its case to the committee.
It’s hard to pick against any Spartans team when they play at the Breslin Center, even arguably Tom Izzo’s best roster ever. The Buckeyes are gritty, but they don’t have enough to stop Denzel “Mr. Everything” Valentine and the flame-throwing Bryn Forbes from beyond the arc. Expect Michigan State to send Valentine, Forbes and Matt Costello out on the high note they deserve on Senior Day.
