February 21, 2017Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has added two new assistants to his coaching staff, hiring Sean Magee as director of player personnel and Scott Turner as an offensive analyst.
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh made two more additions to his staff Tuesday, bringing in former NFL quarterbacks coach Scott Turner as an offensive analyst and announcing the hiring of Sean Magee as director of player personnel.
Turner is the son of former NFL head coach Norv Turner and has spent the last three seasons as quarterbacks coach for the Minnesota Vikings. Turner’s hiring was first reported by Albert Breer of NFL.com.
Turner’s last collegiate job was as Pittsburgh’s wide receivers coach in 2010. He’ll take the spot left open by former NFL offensive coordinator Michael Johnson Sr., who joined Willie Taggart’s staff at Oregon instead of Michigan’s. Johnson’s re-routing to Eugene followed controversy due to the fact Johnson’s son is a highly-rated quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class.
Magee heads to Michigan from Navy, where served in the same position for the last five seasons. He also played for the Midshipmen from 2001-04. Magee will have a role in Michigan’s recruiting efforts, which have been widely successful under Harbaugh.
“Sean brings a strong recruiting history and an experienced personnel background to the University of Michigan,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “We are excited to have his military experience, leadership skills and organizational talents help make our program great. Throughout the interview process, I felt that Sean answered my questions about how to improve our program before I could even ask them.”
