March 11, 2016The Michigan Wolverines have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.
Team: Michigan Wolverines
Record: 22-12
Conference: Big Ten
Head coach: John Beilein
How they got here: At-Large Bid
The Wolverines feature good depth and athleticism, and few teams can handle Derrick Walton Jr. and Zak Irvin when they are making things happen in transition. Walton is the better perimeter shooter, but Irvin can score through contact and does a good job on the glass as well. This is a solid three-point shooting team that can wear teams down on the perimeter.
Size is an issue, and the Wolverines do a poor job of protecting the rim. Matchups are everything for Michigan, and the team has had a problem forcing opponents out of their comfort zone this year. When UM is dictating things, the Wolverines can be dangerous. The problem is it just doesn’t happen all that often.
Michigan has scored some nice wins this season, but the team’s lack of offensive firepower can be a problem at times. Depending on the matchups, the Wolverines could win a first-round game, but they likely will top out in the second round.
