Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said All-America cornerback Jourdan Lewis is hopeful to make his season debut Saturday against Penn State. Taco Charlton and Bryan Mone also could play.

Jim Harbaugh already has one of the nation’s top defensive players in Jabrill Peppers at his disposal. Now he could be adding an All-American to that group.

The Michigan head coach said Monday that Jourdan Lewis could make his season debut Saturday when the Wolverines host Penn State. Lewis has missed the first three games for No. 4 Michigan and is still fighting injuries to his back, hamstring and quad.

“Jourdan’s been a real stud in everything that he’s done,” Harbaugh told the media. “Every preparation that he’s made in the offseason, everything that he’s doing now. He’s put himself in a position to have success. It’s all been A++ and I’m very hopeful this is the week he can get back on the field and play.”

Having Lewis would only benefit a Michigan defense that allowed just seven points through the final three quarters of last week’s win over Colorado. Peppers earned Big Ten defensive player and special teams player of the week honors for his efforts that included a 54-yard punt return for a touchdown, becoming the first player ever to earn both honors in the same week.

Harbaugh is also hoping to get a pair of defensive linemen back against Penn State. Taco Charlton has missed the last two games with an ankle injury, and Bryan Mone has also sat out those contests with a knee ailment.

“They’re getting better,” Harbaugh said. “They could be graduating this week from the training room to the field. Could be. We’ll see. We’ll hope.”
