Michigan Football Recruiting Update: Dylan McCaffrey A High Priority In 2017

Michigan football recruiting update as the Wolverines are looking ahead at Dylan McCaffrey for their 2017 class.

    January 4, 2016

Michigan football is recruiting 4-star quarterback Dylan McCaffrey for its 2017 class.

There’s a lot of glamour that comes with having McCaffrey as a last name. Ed McCaffrey spent 13 seasons in the NFL, made one Pro Bowl and was a part of three Super Bowl winning teams.

His son Christian McCaffrey was a Heisman Trophy finalist for the Stanford Cardinal this past year and even broke the NCAA record for all-purpose yards in a season. The previous mark was held by none other than Barry Sanders, whose son happens to be a backup to McCaffrey at Stanford.

Jim Harbaugh noticed the trend, and that’s likely one reason he’s targeting 4-star quarterback Dylan McCaffrey for Michigan’s 2017 class.

The Wolverines are sitting at No. 17 in the 2017 class rankings, and adding McCaffrey would be a huge get. He’s a 6-foot-5, 200-pound prospect with a strong arm, a quick release and excellent pocket awareness.

It’s still early in the game for McCaffrey’s recruitment, but according to Steve Lorenz of Wolverine247, Harbaugh and the coaching staff are positioning themselves nicely for the nation’s No. 2 pocket passer.

As Harbaugh plans to lure McCaffrey to Ann Arbor, Mich., the Wolverines head coach is also putting the finishing touches on a stellar recruiting class for 2016.

Michigan has its eyes on 5-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary, the nation’s No. 1 player. And the Wolverines are also trying to fight off the Georgia Bulldogs for No. 1 tight end Isaac Nauta, who will be putting his talents on display at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

With a strong finish in this class, adding McCaffrey in the next cycle would certainly drop jaws and pop eyes around college football over the type of team Harbaugh is assembling in Ann Arbor.
