December 18, 2016Michigan football recruiting update as of December 18, 2016. Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines picked up two highly touted wide receivers.
First thing’s first. There were two occasions in the last week when things did not go Michigan’s way. Four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson chose to commit to Georgia despite being heavily favored to the Wolverines.
Four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson chose to commit to Georgia despite being heavily favored to the Wolverines. And, earlier in the week, 3-star running back A.J. Dillon flipped his commitment to Boston College.
However, even without Wilson, Michigan still has four offensive linemen pledged in the 2017 recruiting class, and three of them are rated as 4-star prospects. Also, the loss of Dillon does not mean a whole lost, as Harbaugh’s staff also has commitments from 4-star halfback O’Maurey Samuels and 3-star halfback Kurt Taylor.
Plus, Dillon’s flip opens up a spot in the class for 5-star running back and Alabama commit Najee Harris. There is still potential for the nation’s No. 1 overall player to flip his commitment from the Crimson Tide to the Wolverines.
Even if Harris doesn’t flip, Michigan won’t be lacking for offensive playmakers. The Wolverines added commitments from 5-star wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones and 4-star wide receiver Tarik Black last week.
But it doesn’t stop there. Four-star center Cesar Ruiz is scheduled to commit on Monday, and Michigan is the favorite to land him as well.
