The Wolverines continue to steamroll the competition. They absolutely destroyed Lovie Smith’s Illinois team, 41-8. And there were some big-time recruits in Ann Arbor to witness the win.
Four-star prospect Donovan Jeter, who decommitted from Notre Dame only a few weeks after he committed to the Fighting Irish, was on campus. That visit must have been pretty great because the nation’s No. 30 defensive end committed to Michigan Sunday afternoon.
Jeter was joined by 4-star offensive tackle Kai-Leon Herbert, 4-star defensive tackle Jay Tufele, 4-star outside linebacker Willie Gay, 3-star defensive end Robert Porcher IV and 3-star cornerback Matt Hankins.
The fight for Herbert is real. The Plantation, Florida native remains committed to the Wolverines, but both the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes are trying to flip the nation’s No. 26 offensive tackle. With Michigan chasing 5-star offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood, 5-star offensive guard Tedarrell Slaton and 4-star center Cesar Ruiz, that window for a Herbert flip is as big as it’s ever been.
The Wolverines will be on the road at rival Michigan State next week, but when they get back and host Maryland on Nov. 5, the focus will be on 4-star wide receiver Nico Collins. Alabama is the biggest threat to Michigan for his commitment, but it seems as though Collins is still leaning toward the Wolverines. A great visit could seal the deal.
