Wide receiver Micah Jones, one of the top players in the state of Illinois, pledged his commitment to Notre Dame on Friday, giving another boost to the Fighting Irish’s 2018 recruiting class.

Scouting outlets don’t necessarily agree where Micah Jones should be ranked in the 2018 recruiting class.

One thing is for certain, though – Jones is extremely talented.

Jones, one of the top players in Illinois in his class, committed to Notre Dame on Friday. Jones’ announcement came via Twitter with a picture edit of him in his high school uniform and a Fighting Irish logo.

The decision comes just four days after Jones tweeted his list of finalists – mostly Big Ten schools – that also included Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Illinois, Northwestern and Ole Miss. He currently holds a total of 15 offers, and other schools likely will try to lure Jones out of his Notre Dame commitment before National Signing Day 2018.

Scout lists Jones as a 3-star prospect, but most other outlets consider him to be a 4-star wide receiver. The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder from Warren Township High School is a big target and uses his size to shield off defenders. He’ll provide Notre Dame quarterbacks with a solid weapon should he keep his commitment.

With the addition of Jones, the Fighting Irish have nine commitments in the 2018 class after receiving three pledges within a 24-hour period at one point last week. Jones is the first wide receiver to commit to Notre Dame in this class.
