Miami is coming off two difficult home losses, while Virginia Tech was run through by Syracuse in upstate New York. With both teams licking their wounds, give me the Hokies, at home, on a Thursday night. Midweek games used to be VT’s bread and butter, so let’s turn back the clock. Jerod Evans bounces back, Brad Kaaya continues to struggle, and fans are treated to a treat between the conference’s two best offseason head coaching hires.

This should be a really entertaining game between two teams that are vying to stay in the ACC Coastal division title mix after not playing their best in losses last week. It will be played on a short week, so we’ll see how crisp the teams will be in all phases. I think the difference could be a big special teams play from punt returner Braxton Berrios, who had a 41-yard return for a touchdown in Miami’s 70-3 win against Florida A&M earlier in the year. Mark Richt and Co. stop the bleeding with a huge road win.

Last week’s game aside, Virginia Tech is on the climb. And I’m a once-believer in the resurgence from Coral Gables, but it is clear this Miami team needs more time. It appears Brad Kaaya is banged up and Mark Walton, who rushed for well over 100 yards in Miami’s first three games, has totaled under 100 yards in the Canes’ last 3 games. No bueno. You can’t run the ball, you can’t win this week. Hokies take it at home.

The fact that Virginia Tech’s administration banned the red zone “Stick It In” chant in 2007 remains one of the great travesties of college football. That was fun. Anyway, Justin Fuente is already doing great things in Blacksburg despite the upset loss to Syracuse this past Saturday. The lack of depth for Miami will be a problem, and the Hokies “stick it in” the end zone at least four times and walk away with a win.
