Last week wasn’t the best of times for the No. 15 Hurricanes, who come into this one at 13-3 and 2-2 in ACC play. Miami fell to Virginia on Tuesday, 66-58, and it lost to Clemson, 76-65, on Saturday.
The Hurricanes were riding an eight-game winning streak until the Tigers cut that run short in Greenville, S.C.
Now Miami heads into Chestnut Hill, Mass. to take on the struggling Eagles. Boston College enters this one at 7-10 on the season without a single conference win. In their first four ACC games, the Eagles have fallen to Duke, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Pittsburgh.
Let’s see if they can pick up their first conference win at home vs. Miami.
In the loss to Clemson, Angel Rodriguez was nowhere to be found. He shot just 1-of-7 from the field for three points. The Hurricanes need more production from him this time out. If he knocks down his jumpers and creates open looks for Sheldon McClellan and Davon Reed, then Miami will just have to get a hand in Eli Carter’s face and box out.
Carter went off for 31 points last time out in the loss to Pittsburgh. He’s shooting 32.1 percent from three on the season, but he’ll have to drop a few daggers on Miami to help Boston College stay in the game. If the Eagles close out on McClellan, Rodriguez and Reed, they’ll just have to get some production from Dennis Clifford down low in the paint.
Rodriguez will have a bounce-back game and hit double figures while using penetration to kick out to McClellan and Reed, who will also reach double figures. Carter will knock down a few triples but won’t be consistent enough to will the Eagles into the game by himself. Clifford will pull down a few rebounds but won’t establish himself in the paint early on to keep the Hurricanes’ defense honest. Miami wins by double digits.
Prediction: Miami 83, Boston College 75
Line: Miami -14
