Miami coaching search update for Tuesday, Dec. 1. Mark Richt will interview and Dan Mullen has already met with the Hurricanes about their coaching position.

The Miami Hurricanes are wasting no time with their coaching search. According to Sun-Sentinel columnist Dave Hyde, Miami has already interviewed Dan Mullen, Butch Davis and Greg Schiano. Next up on their list? Alumnus and former quarterback Mark Richt.

“Miami interviewed Mullen, Butch and Schiano. Talking with Richt today, per source,” Hyde tweeted.

Richt was fired by the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday, and has since been contacted by several schools regarding their open positions. He put together a very successful resume with the Bulldogs, but he could never return the program to the championship form it experienced in the early 80s.

Richt, Schiano and Davis all have ties to the program.

Mullen is an interesting candidate in the search. He doesn’t have ties to Miami, but he does have SEC head coaching experience and has recruited the state of Florida. Mullen coached under Urban Meyer with the Florida Gators, helping lead the team to two national championships as the team’s offensive coordinator from 2005-08. He’s also helped develop several prominent college quarterbacks, including Josh Harris (Bowling Green), Alex Smith (Utah), Chris Leak (Florida), Tim Tebow (Florida) and Dak Prescott (Mississippi State).

Mullen has coached the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 54-37 overall record since 2009. He put together a 10-3 season in 2014, finishing second in the SEC West — the only season the Bulldogs have finished higher than fourth in the division under his direction.
