After four years in Los Angeles, former five-star quarterback Max Browne is entering college football’s form of free agency.

Max Browne’s time with the USC Trojans has officially come to an end. On Wednesday, in a move that’s been expected, Browne announced that he’s leaving USC to take the next step in his football career and life.

Browne shared the following classy message on Instagram, thanking USC and his teammates.

Four years ago, when I signed to come play at USC, I never thought this day would come. But the time has come for me to find a new home.

Thank you to my teammates. From my recruiting class of 12 strong who came here in the heart of sanctions, to all of my other teammates I have encountered during my time here, I will never forget the grind and will always remember going to battle with the guys. I thank you boys for voting me captain, as it was one of my most proud moments. Keep grinding and I will always be rooting for all of you guys.

Thank you to the boys: The OM crew, The Stable, WP1A and the men of LXA. You guys made the good times at SC great, and showed me why SC is such a special place.

My four years here confirmed and even bolstered what I learned from high school; I have had the best of friends and teammates anyone could ask for. I walk away from USC falling short of many of my goals, but I also walk away with a full heart, lifelong relationships, and memories that will last a lifetime. I will certainly have an assortment of feelings when I look back at my 4 years here at SC, but I will always remember the unbelievable people I encountered along my path as a Trojan.

I’m hungry and ready to attack the next step in both football and in life. Please stay in touch everyone, love you all. Fight On!

Browne arrived at USC as a highly touted five-star recruit. He was ranked the nation’s No. 1 quarterback in the 2013 recruiting class.

He redshirted his freshman year, and assumed the No. 2 spot in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Browne was tabbed the starter heading into the 2016 season, but was eventually replaced by redshirt freshman Sam Darnold after a 1-2 start.

He finishes his USC career with 650 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Browne will be eligible to play immediately due to NCAA grad transfer rules. USC gave him permission to begin searching for a potential transfer school in early November.

According to Lindsey Thiry of the LA Times, Browne will forego bowl preparations in order to begin exploring his options.
