    Why You Need To Care

The No. 3 Terrapins come into this matchup at 15-2 on the season and 4-1 in Big Ten play. Maryland’s last time out ended with a 70-67 loss to Michigan on Tuesday, ending a nine-game winning streak.

As far as Ohio State goes, its biggest win of the season so far has been against Kentucky, 74-67, on Dec. 19. The Buckeyes are 12-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The Terps haven’t lost at home yet this season, and head coach Mark Turgeon isn’t planning on letting his team start that trend now.

    Why Maryland Will Win

The Terps got 18 points and 10 rebounds from Jake Layman against the Wolverines, but Melo Trimble went 1-of-7 from the field for just two points. If Maryland wants to beat Ohio State, it has to get solid performances from Layman and Trimble. Some help from Robert Carter, and the Terps will be fine.

    Why Ohio State Will Win

There were six Buckeyes who dropped double-digits on Rutgers in Ohio State’s 94-68 win. If the Buckeyes are going to steal one on the road from the Terps, they have to get that same consistent, distributed scoring effort. JaQuan Lyle recorded a triple-double against the Scarlet Knights. If he comes close to that kind of performance, Ohio State will be in position to win.

    What’s Going To Happen?

There’s no way Trimble is going to have back-to-back games with a poor shooting performance. He’ll get back on track and pick up a few assists along the way. Layman will be there to help carry the load, too. Lyle will do work, but he won’t get enough help on the boards to keep Maryland from picking up second-chance opportunities or securing them for his own team. Maryland wins this one by double digits.
