March 10, 2016The Maryland Terrapins have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.
Team: Maryland Terrapins
Record: 25-8
Conference: Big Ten
Head coach: Mark Turgeon
How they got here: At-large bid
On paper, Maryland is one of the most complete teams in college basketball. Point guard Melo Trimble is special in the open court. Diamond Stone is a beast in the paint, and Robert Carter, Rasheed Sulaimon and Jake Layman are all quality scorers who have the ability to take over games. Carter, Stone and Layman control the glass and help trigger the transition game.
There’s a chemistry problem here that has left Maryland unfocused at times, and Trimble’s shaky perimeter shooting is an issue, especially when he forces things. Carter hasn’t been as consistent as he needs to be, and Maryland simply can be a bit too loose with the ball at times.
Maryland has been beyond shaky of late, and this just isn’t a team that is on the same page. We’re calling for an early exit, not necessarily in the first round, but one that will leave Terrapin fans disappointed in the season.
