5 Keys to the Schedule
– The D.J. Durkin starts out with three easy non-conference games, but two of them are on the road. The opener against Howard will be a light scrimmage, but the dates with FIU and UCF are in Florida. Going to Miami and Orlando isn’t a vacation for a Terp team that needs to win those games.
– The Terps miss Wisconsin and Iowa from the West, but they have to go to Nebraska. Hosting Purdue and Minnesota isn’t bad for interdivisional play – it’ll be a big year if Maryland wins those two.
– The haymakers come over the second half of the season dealing with Michigan State, at Michigan, Ohio State and at Nebraska. In the midst of all that is the date at Indiana – it’ll be important to get hot early.
– The run of three home games in four weeks to start the Big Ten season is followed up by three road games in four weeks, and then comes the season finale against Rutgers. That might be for bowl eligibility.
– WATCH OUT FOR … those dates early on at FIU and at UCF. Maryland can get to six wins and rebound with a bowl appearance, but that probably only happens with a 4-0 start – throwing in wins over Howard and Purdue. Even after last year’s disaster, UCF could be dangerous, and FIU could be dangerous.
