Marvin Wilson says Alabama and LSU will be among his final schools when he narrows his list of choices down.
February 19, 2016Football offseason … what’s that? No, sorry, but college football never takes a break.
Sure, the 2016 season might be more than a few months out, but spring practices are approaching. And, of course, none of you forgot about the recruiting trail, right?
The 2016 class was solid, but the 2017 cycle is going to be just as important.
Just as they’ve done for so many years, two Southeastern Conference rivals are going to be dueling for a big-name defensive tackle. Four-star recruit Marvin Wilson might be from Big 12 country in Bellaire, Texas, but he told SEC Country two locks on his final list of schools are Alabama and LSU.
“Those are going to be the two schools that will be there until the end,” Wilson said. “I already know that. I don’t have a set Top 5 or a Top 10, but if I did I know those two schools would be in there.”
Despite pushes from Michigan and Ohio State to lure Wilson to the Big Ten, it appears the call of the SEC may end up being too strong when it’s all said and done.
Florida State, Oklahoma and USC will all make their pitches, but it’ll take a lot to land a commitment from the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 21 overall player.
Wilson has apparently been attracted to the Tigers since his fourth grade P.E. teacher’s brother turned him on to the LSU vibe, having played for the Tigers himself.
It also helps Les Miles to know Wilson’s mother is from Louisiana.
But Nick Saban has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, and he could put the recruitment into maximum overdrive if he feels the need to do so.
Alabama-LSU recruiting battles — keeping college football alive in its least active moments.
