Don’t look now, but here come the Trojans.
Clay Helton and his staff have been gearing up for a big finish to this recruiting cycle, and it appears as though the wheels have been set in motion.
On Monday night, 4-star prospect Marlon Tuipulotu flipped his commitment from Washington to Pac-12 rival USC. The Independence, Oregon native is ranked as the No. 5 defensive tackle and No. 53 overall player in the country.
He released a statement regarding his decision to flip his pledge from the Huskies to the Trojans.
“[I] never thought this day would come, but after talking with my family and prayers with them about this situation, I have decided to decommit from the University of Washington. This was a tough decision for me, and I have nothing but love for the players, the school, and the coaches at the university. A special thanks to Coach [Chris Petersen] and Coach Malloe, as they recruited me from the beginning and were one of the first schools to offer. I honestly wish them nothing but the absolute best in everything they do. From here, I would like to announce that I am still planning to graduate early and will be attending the University of Southern California.”
With the addition of Tuipulotu, USC now has 18 total commits in the cycle and has moved up from No. 16 to No. 12 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings. And the Trojans aren’t done. They’re vying for commitments from a number of blue-chip prospects that have yet to commit, including 5-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon.
