The Auburn Tigers received a commitment from four-star defensive end Markaviest Bryant on National Signing Day. Gus Malzahn and his staff landed one of the best defenders in Georgia.

Markaviest Bryant has chosen the next step in his football career.

The Class of 2017 Georgia prospect, nicknamed “Big Cat,” will leave the Peach State after committing to the Auburn Tigers on National Signing Day.

The Georgia Bulldogs target had recently completed back-to-back official visits to Arkansas and Auburn, so he had to decide whether he wanted to remain in-state and play for Kirby Smart in Athens or head to the SEC West and play for either the Razorbacks or one of the Tigers — which also received a visit from him. He enjoyed his time with LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, so the Bayou Bengals remained heavily in the mix. But Gus Malzahn and the Tigers were able to ultimately land his commitment.

Bryant is a cousin of former Auburn defender Montravius Adams, who is expected to be a first-round NFL Draft pick this spring.

The 6-foot-4, 226-pounder is one of the best weak-side defensive end prospects in the country. One of the players he patterns his game after is Leonard Floyd, who is a former Georgia star now playing for the NFL’s Chicago Bears. Bryant’s versatility will fit in well with the Tigers’ scheme, and his pass-rushing ability will be welcomed on The Plains. He’ll provide much-needed depth off of the edge and could see time at the “Buck” position that NFL Draft early entrant Carl Lawson played.
