*UPDATE* Mark Richt addressed the media on Friday morning. Here’s what he had to say about being named the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.

Mark Richt is officially being named the next head coach of the Miami Hurricanes. The football program sent out a release Thursday afternoon to confirm the news.

The release stated that Miami will hold a press conference at 10:00 a.m. ET to introduce Richt as the 24th head football coach in the school’s history.

“Returning to ‘The U’ is truly an honor and I am humbled by the responsibility of leading our storied program,” Richt said in the release.

Richt has a 145-51 career record as a head coach — all with the Georgia Bulldogs. He’s 9-5 in bowl games, and his .740 career winning percentage is the fifth-best among active FBS coaches. While at Georgia, he developed a lengthy list of NFL prospects — Matthew Stafford, A.J. Green, Knowshon Moreno, Todd Gurley and Geno Atkins, to name a few.

UM president Julio Frenk, members of the administration, board of trustee members, donors, coaches, and some football players — past and present — will be in attendance to see Richt take his first step with his alma mater.

Richt played quarterback for Miami from 1979-1982.
