Georgia Tech’s backfield is getting thinner, as Marcus Marshall is leaving the program via transfer. He was the Yellow Jackets’ leading rusher the last two seasons.
Despite enjoying a nice bounce back 8-4 season following a disastrous 3-9 2015 campaign, Georgia Tech is losing one of its best players from this fall’s squad.
Sophomore B-back Marcus Marshall announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he is transferring from the program.
The Yellow Jackets’ top rusher from the last two seasons plans to leave the Atlanta school after the conclusion of fall semester.

Marshall won the starting B-back spot near the end of the 2015 season, finishing his freshman year with 654 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. This fall, he started six games but faced competition for carries with the emergence of true freshman Dedrick Mills, who also started six times despite being suspended for three games.
This season, Marshall rushed for 624 yards, averaging 6.5 yards per carry, and four scores. He also had three receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown. During the team’s three-game win streak against Virginia Tech, Virginia and Georgia to close out the regular season, Marshall had a scoring run in each game.
As a team, Georgia Tech averaged 257.4 yards per game on the ground this fall, which ranked No. 10 nationally.
If the North Carolina product wants to play at another FBS program, he will have to sit out the 2017 season but will have two years of eligibility remaining.
