The 2016 season could have meant the end of the Mark Stoops era in Lexington. Instead, the Wildcats head coach helped the program take a big leap forward with a signature win over Louisville en route to a 7-6 record.
We’re now seeing that success on the field yield success on the recruiting trail.
On Saturday, 4-star prospect Lynn Bowden committed to Kentucky. He became the Wildcats’ 23rd total commit in the cycle. Stoops’ team now sits at No. 25 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.
Bowden released a brief statement regarding his pledge.
“[I] am 100 percent committed to the University of Kentucky. [Big Blue Nation] stand up.”
Bowden, who’s ranked as the No. 4 athlete and No. 60 overall player in the country, instantly becomes Kentucky’s highest-ranked recruit. But the addition of the Warren, Ohio native also draws attention to the success Stoops’ staff has had dipping into the Buckeye State.
The Wildcats now have six commits from the state of Ohio, including former Ohio State commit Danny Clark, a 4-star quarterback. We could be staring down the barrel of the future Kentucky offense with Clark and Bowden.
At 6-foot-1, 190 lbs Bowden has the capabilities to play both wide receiver and defensive back. He can stop on a dime and change direction without losing much velocity, but it’s his ability to create after the catch that makes Bowden a true threat in the passing game.
He’s extremely elusive and hard to tackle in the open field, which could lead to a lot jet sweeps and smoke screens once he’s incorporated into the offense.
