Alabama signee Lyndell “Mack” Wilson has a torn labrum that will require surgery for the former 4-star recruit.

Lyndell “Mack” Wilson’s plans for the spring and summer were just thrown out the window.

The Alabama signee has a torn labrum and will require surgery next week, which will keep the 2016 class’ No. 2 inside linebacker out for three to four months.

Wilson tweeted out the news on Wednesday night.

Alabama has 17 linebackers on its roster at the moment, including Wilson and fellow 2016 signee, 5-star inside linebacker Ben Davis.

So while the surgery will postpone Wilson’s development physically, he can use that time to adjust mentally to the life of a college football players — studying the playbook, watching film, etc.

There is never a quality replacement for live reps in practice, but Wilson can neutralize the impact of the injury by raising the mental levels of his game.

Such preparation could help him during the season when he’s competing against a stable of guys for playing time.
