LSU vs. Texas A&M Game Preview

    When: Thursday, November 24 – 7:30 p.m. ET
Where: Kyle Field, College Station, TX
    TV Broadcast: ESPN

LSU was a yard away from beating Florida, but the Tigers could not get the ball into the end zone and was defeated 16-10 in a defensive battle. Running back Leonard Fournette only saw limited action, rushing 12 times for 40 yards while Derrius Guice could only muster 83 yards on 19 carries.

Texas A&M got back in the win column after two straight losses by defeated UTSA 23-10 in an ugly game. Quarterback Jake Hubenak threw for 248 yards and a touchdown while the Aggies defense help the Roadrunners to a mere 48 yards on the ground.

    What To Know About LSU

The Tigers hope to have Fournette healthy, but it will be a game-time decision as the junior running back is still suffering from an ankle injury that will likely require surgery. Without him, LSU will count on Guice to carry the load while setting up the pass for Danny Etling, who has been fairly consistent since taking over for Brandon Harris.

Defensively, the Tigers will be without star linebacker Kendell Beckwith, but loads of talent on the offensive line will be able to put pressure on Hubenak, who is playing in place of Trevor Knight.

What to Know About Texas A&M

Hubenak will have to be able to pass the ball so the running lanes aren’t clogged the entire time for running backs Trayveon Williams and Keith Ford. If Hubenak can find time, he has a talented group of receivers to hit in Josh Reynolds, Christian Kirk, and Ricky Seals-Jones.

Stopping Guice and, if he plays, Fournette and making Etling throw the ball to beat them would be a successful game plan for the Aggies. Etling can manage the game, but being the guy to beat a team with his arm is not his speciality.

(UPDATE: It is being reported that Trevor Knight will return from injury and start at quarterback for Texas A&M.)

    Advantages

Offense: Tie. The Aggies are hurting without starting quarterback Trevor Knight.

Defense: LSU. The Tigers’ losses haven’t been because of the defense.

Special Teams: Tie. Christian Kirk returning punts is a weapon for the Aggies.

Coaching: Texas A&M. Orgeron’s audition to become the permanent head coach is not going well.

Intangibles: Texas A&M. No one wants to lose on Senior Night.

    LSU vs. Texas A&M Prediction

Make sure to not eat too much turkey so you can tune into this one on Thanksgiving night. Whoever is better able to run the ball will most likely win this game, and that should be LSU even if Fournette sits. The Tigers’ defense is stingy against the run, and will force Hubenak into some mistakes. Orgeron will finish the regular season with a win, but another coach will be on the sidelines in charge of LSU next season. LSU by a touchdown.
