LSU vs. Texas A&M prediction and game preview. The Tigers try to end the regular season on the right note as they host the Aggies in Baton Rouge.
November 20, 2015Anything interesting happen around LSU (7-3) lately? Les Miles might be past coaching for his job, but a loss to Texas A&M (8-3), especially an ugly one, would almost ensure a change in the program. A good game for the SEC bowl pecking order, in one way or another the game will be a big deal and talked about next week. Check out the LSU vs. Texas A&M prediction and game preview.

Les Miles and his job status have been front and center of the LSU world at the moment, but it’s not his fault the team collapsed after getting its will taken away by Alabama three games ago. This just wasn’t the same team against Arkansas and Ole Miss as it was earlier in the year, and while it might have been a bit overrated in the first few months, this is something different. The nightmare November can end with something big at home, but would a win be enough to save Miles?
Texas A&M came up with a nicer-than-it-looks win over Vanderbilt, coming up with a 25-0 performance against a nasty defense. On a run of three wins in the last four games, it’s been an okay month, but beating Vandy, Western Carolina and South Carolina is no big whoop to go along with a loss at home to Auburn. This hasn’t been a great season by preseason expectations, and while Kevin Sumlin isn’t on any sort of a hot seat, a loss would make everyone a wee bit grouchy. This wasn’t supposed to be an 8-4 season.
What’s been LSU’s big issues? The run defense has gone bye-bye. The Tigers gave up a total of five rushing touchdowns over the first seven games, and nine in the last three, allowing three touchdown runs in each of the last three games. LSU is 0-5 the last five times over the last two seasons it allowed three rushing touchdowns – can A&M’s ground game take over, too? It ran for three scores against both Ball State and South Carolina, and while this is mostly a passing team, it can move the ball with the running game, too. A&M doesn’t power the ball, but this is a time to try.
It’s not like the Aggies have a rock of a run defense., either. The last two games haven’t been a problem – but that’s because they played Western Carolina and Vanderbilt. The teams that could run the ball haven’t have a problem, with seven of the 11 teams on the schedule running for five yards or more even though the defensive front is solid at getting into the backfield. LSU, go with your fastball. Yeah, the downfall to the season has been the inability to loosen things up enough with the passing game, but this week it needs to be about …
Leonard Fournette. He did his job against Ole Miss with 108 yards on 25 carries, but he wasn’t the Leonard Fournette of earlier in the season. He’s still having a whale of a season – with 1,582 yards and 17 scores averaging 6.6 yards per carry – but now it’s time to kick it in again. It’s not his fault considering defenses are sending everyone and their sister to stop him, but last year he came up with 146 yards against Texas A&M as he all but won the game for the Tigers. Run No. 7, run him some more, let the offensive line control everything.
Will LSU be able to give Miles his one big final moment at home? Yup. The Tigers will be more physical on both sides of the ball, and next week the talk will be about A&M’s problems, not LSU’s.
