Freshman stud Ben Simmons leads the No. 23-ranked Tigers up against the South Alabama Jaguars in what should be another showcase event for Simmons and company.

LSU’s 6-foot-10 forward became the third No. 1 recruit to have a double-double in his first collegiate game. Simmons dropped 11 points and 13 rebounds against McNeese State to open the season in an 81-70 win for the Tigers. LSU followed that up with a 91-69 win over Kennesaw State.

It won’t be easy going for Matthew Graves and South Alabama, but the game does present a chance for the Jaguars to see what they have this year against big-time competition. With seven upperclassmen on the roster, Graves will want to start getting the younger guys some experience for the future.

Prediction

Simmons will take over — pretty much immediately after the tip-off. He does it all. He’ll get his own points in a vareity of ways against South Alabama, but Simmons will look to have a well-rounded game. If he doesn’t get a triple-double, his stat line will be close. LSU will control the defensive boards and outlet the ball in a hurry. With Simmons, Blakeney and Sampson running the break, the Tigers will be too fast and efficient for the Jags to handle.
