LSU will wear special “Gridiron Gold” throwback jerseys this Saturday against Mississippi State instead of its usual white tops.

The usual white home jerseys will be put away for one week in Baton Rouge, as the LSU Tigers will take the field wearing “Gridiron Gold” throwback uniforms that resemble what the Bayou Bengals wore in the 1940s.

The tops will be complemented with white helmets featuring each player’s respective numbers labeled on both side of the helmet, as well as the “Sailor Mike” logo presented on the collar of the jersey.

“We’re very excited to wear the old LSU colors and honor the past with this new uniform,” said running back Leonard Fournette. “It’s a special moment for us to be able to wear it and represent Louisiana on the field. The uniform is a throwback; it’s a classy look.”

LSU is one of few teams that elect to wear white tops at home instead of a darker color. It is rare to see them wearing its alternate purple, but they are broken out for special occasions.
