LSU football recruiting update as of April 5, 2016 with the Tigers laying a foundation for their 2017 class.
April 4, 2016LSU football recruiting update as of April 5, 2016. The Tigers extended a handful of offers and welcomed the No. 1 athlete to campus last week.
The Tigers were quiet for yet another week, as they dropped two spots from No. 22 to No. 24 in the 2017 class rankings.
Les Miles and his staff did extend scholarships to four new recruits, though — all in the 2017 cycle. Gary Johnson, from Dodge City Community College, was the only Junior College recruit of the bunch. He’s committed to the Crimson Tide.
Three-star linebackers K.J. Britt and Monty Rice both hail from Alabama and now have offers to LSU. The fourth member of that group is 4-star wide receiver Tyrell Shavers, a 6-foot-6 red zone threat from Lewisville, Texas.
The Tigers did receive a visit from 5-star athlete Dylan Moses. The Baton Rouge, La. native committed to Les Miles’ team as an eighth grader but decommitted last fall before transferring to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. before his senior season.
After visiting LSU and Alabama last week, Moses also visited Texas. While the Longhorns supplanted the Tide as Moses’ leader, the Tigers were tied for No. 3 on his list with UCLA. That’s good news considering the No. 2 overall recruit didn’t mention LSU when asked about his top teams a couple months ago.
His trip back to Baton Rouge seemed to have gone well. Maybe Leonard Fournette promoted the Tigers well enough to Moses to keep them in the top five.
Below is a look at how the Tigers’ 2017 recruiting class is looking right now.
