There are plenty of non-traditional factors when it comes to college football recruiting.

It’s not always about proximity or facilities. Ask 4-star prospect Aubrey Solomon. Ranked as the No. 5 defensive tackle and No. 54 overall player in the 2017 class, Solomon decommitted from Michigan last week after he apparently received a letter from the Wolverines staff that thanked him for attending a BBQ he wasn’t even at. To top it off, Solomon claimed that both his first and last names were misspelled on the letter.

The end result is the simple fact that the Leesburg, Georgia native is back on the market and ready to be recruited once again. Cue, then, 3-star fullback Tory Carter, who is trying to get the LSU Tigers more involved in that process.

Carter, Solomon’s high school teammate, has been pledged to the Tigers since May 21 and has seen LSU’s 2017 class rise to No. 4 in the college football recruiting rankings.

He’s trying to pull Solomon with him to Baton Rouge and improve the Tigers’ stock even more.

“It’s an opportunity for LSU to get him,” Carter told SEC Country.

Les Miles’ staff has already secured commitments from 4-star defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin, 3-star defensive tackle Neil Farrell, and 3-star defensive ends Justin Thomas and Aaron Moffitt, the son of Tommy Moffitt, LSU’s assistant athletic director and the strength and conditioning coach.

If the Tigers were to add Solomon, they would still sit at No. 4 in the rankings but would cut the deficit of recruiting points down to 114 behind No. 3 Oklahoma. Ohio State currently sits at No. 1 with Alabama at No. 2.

Carter will surely stay in pursuit of Solomon, but he’ll have stiff competition from Georgia. Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs appear to be the favorite to land Solomon at this time.
