Four-star running back Lorenzo Lingard committed to Miami on Thursday, giving the Hurricanes eight total commits in the 2018 recruiting class.

Thursday was a huge day for 4-star prospect Lorenzo Lingard. The No. 2-ranked running back in the state of Florida was included in Campus Insiders’ CI 25 as one of the nation’s top 25 players, And then, minutes later, he committed to Miami.

Hurricanes fans can rejoice in knowing their 2018 recruiting class now contains the No. 4 running back and No. 23 overall player according to Scout’s rankings. The Miami native is ranked as the No. 2 halfback and No. 14 overall player in the CI 25.

Lingard released a brief statement regarding his decision to give the ‘Canes his pledge.

“I would like to thank everyone around me that has made this possible, and I’m too excited about making a commitment to The U.”

Miami now has eight total commitments and is up to No. 5 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings. The Hurricanes are also No. 2 in the ACC recruiting rankings, behind Florida State, which is No. 4 overall.

At 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Lingard brings a superb ability to see cut-back lanes and hit them with a lot of burst. He’s a strong runner and can maintain his footing after taking the initial contact. He uses his upper body well when toting the rock, as you’ll see him toss around a few stiff arms and bury a hand in the ground to keep his balance if he starts to go down.

With Miami having missed out on 4-star running back Anthony McFarland in the 2017 cycle, landing Lingard was a huge get.
