February 6, 2017The USC Trojans landed a commitment from 4-star outside linebacker Levi Jones. Clay Helton and Co. pulled in one of the best defenders in Texas.
Levi Jones is headed out West.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Texas outside linebacker has chosen to play his college football at USC after narrowing his choices down to the Trojans, Florida and Florida State.
The versatile defender had said his recent visit to FSU exceeded his expectations, so Jimbo Fisher and his staff had to feel good about their chances to land the defender. The Seminoles had the final chance to impress, so many recruiting experts thought that would have made all of the difference. Five-star cornerback Stanford Samuels was also heavily recruiting him to Tallahassee.
But Clay Helton and his Trojans staff were able to surprise the recruiting world early on National Signing Day with a nice “get.”
Jones made his NSD pledge by taking off his jacket to reveal Florida and FSU shirts before finally unveiling his USC shirt and adding a Trojans hat.
The Texas defender really shot up the recruiting rankings following a very good junior season. He has a real nose for the ball with the ability to make plays behind the line of scrimmage and chase down defenders in the open field. He also has good bloodlines, as he is the brother of Cayleb Jones, who played wide receiver at Texas and Arizona.
The pledge to USC also had to disappoint Florida, as new Gators defensive coordinator Randy Shannon is a long-time family friend.
