September 26, 2016Former LSU head coach Les miles showed his classiness in his first public interview since being fired on Sunday.
The sun came up on Monday morning for former LSU head coach Les Miles, who was dismissed after the Tigers were defeated by Auburn, 18-13, on Saturday. Some coaches would take a few days off or handle the firing badly, but this is Miles, who appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and was as classy and gracious as ever.
“I’m for the Tigers. Anything they [administrators] see that makes the Tigers better, I’m for them.”
The 62-year-old Miles, who was almost ousted last season, said there was no reason to battle for the right to stay on as head coach.
“It was beyond fighting. The enjoyment of being here, the enjoyment of community, the experiences that my family’s had, it’s too important to fight over. It’s history. It’s what we were are. If they see a change makes the Tigers better, I’m for them.”
Here are some other quotes of notes from Miles’ time on the show.
On how he was fired
“Face to face. Joe Alleva said we’re going to have to make a change. And I’m for the Tigers. Anything they see that makes the Tigers better, I’m for it. I accepted the outcome and will support that decision and these Tigers going forward.”
On if he talked to players after being dismissed
“I appreciate [LSU athletic director] Joe Alleva giving me that opportunity. I took advantage of it. I did not stay long, but wished them well. They deserve the best. I think Ed Orgeron will do a great job for them.”
On what he will be doing this Saturday
“That’s going to be a tough one. If I can find a ticket [for North Carolina-Florida State], I’ll see if my son can get me a ticket. I’ll be rooting for the LSU Tigers, [UNC] Tar Heels, [Oklahoma State] Cowboys, and I’ll be rooting for Michigan.”
On if he would like to coach again
“I don’t golf, play no tennis. I enjoy shooting the gun, don’t necessarily like pointing at animals. Play cards, but not very well. But what I’ve done for 12-14 hours a day for the last number of years is coach football. I’d have a difficult time not being a coach.”
