January 22, 2017Four-star defensive end Langi Tuifua committed to BYU late Saturday night, giving the Cougars 20 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.
Kalani Sitake had a successful first season as BYU’s head coach. He led the Cougars to a 9-4 record and a 24-21 victory over Wyoming in the Poinsettia Bowl.
But now he’s trying to fill the program with his own guys, players he’s recruited. And it appears his staff is getting the job done.
Late Saturday night, 4-star prospect Langi Tuifua committed to BYU. Now, the Cougars have 20 total commits in the cycle and sit at No. 66 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.
Tuifua, who’s ranked as the No. 23 defensive end and No. 263 overall player in the country, originally committed to Utah in June of 2014 but decommitted almost a year later before committing to Oregon in July of 2015.
However, the South Jordan, Utah native backed off that pledge on Nov. 30, as the Ducks ended up going in a new direction with Willie Taggart after Mark Helfrich was fired as their head coach.
At 6-foot-4, 215 lbs Tuifua brings elite size to the edge but also brings a refined arsenal of pass-rushing moves. If there’s one thing he knows how to do, it’s how to get to the quarterback. With Sitake’s history coaching the defensive side of the ball, the BYU head coach is going to love coaching Tuifua.
The 4-star defensive end is now the highest-rated commit for the Cougars in the 2017 class.
