Three-star offensive guard LaMarius Benson committed to South Carolina on Sunday, giving the Gamecocks their second commit in the 2018 recruiting class.

Slowly but surely, Will Muschamp’s staff is putting together the pieces for its 2018 recruiting class, and it added another piece to the puzzle on Sunday when 3-star offensive guard LaMarius Benson committed to South Carolina.

The Gamecocks now have two total commits in the cycle, as Benson joins 3-star wide receiver Darius Rush.

Benson, who’s from Covington, Georgia, received his offer from South Carolina on Feb. 25 when he attended the Gamecocks’ junior day in Columbia. It took him less than a month to decide South Carolina was where he wanted to be.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound prospect released a brief statement regarding his pledge to the Gamecocks.

“I have officially committed to the University of South Carolina. Respect my decision.”

Benson has also seen time at defensive tackle and could end up making the full-time switch to the defensive side of the ball, but as an offensive linemen, he’s capable of playing in the SEC.

He moves well for his size and gets down the line quickly when he’s asked to pull. He’ll load up and explode from his hips, driving his man to the ground.

For a coach like Muschamp, who loves to pound the rock and send his halfbacks between the tackles, Benson should be a perfect fit. He’s designed well for the running game and will do a great job of paving running lanes for the Gamecocks’ tailbacks.
