Kyler Murray Update: Texas A&M QB Still Distant

Kyler Murray update following transfer news. The Texas A&M quarterback is still distant from the program.

Kyler Murray update a day after he reportedly informed Texas A&M he intended to transfer.

Freshman quarterback Kyler Murray’s future at Texas A&M is still cloudy.

On Wednesday, news broke that Murray had told Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin he intended to transfer. He hasn’t officially announced that he’s transferring yet, but he’s apparently considering the possibility.

Murray didn’t practice with the team on Wednesday, and now, according to sources of Gigem247, he’s a no-show again on Thursday. This despite Sumlin telling reporters on Wednesday that he expected him back.

And Murray isn’t the only quarterback who’s wanted to transfer out of College Station recently. Kyle Allen, who was also highly regarded as a recruit, was recently granted a release from the team.

Murray was the No. 1-ranked dual-threat quarterback in 2015, while Allen was the No. 1 pro-style signal-caller in 2014.

If Murray doesn’t return to the team, that leaves Sumlin with an extremely thin roster for the bowl game and heading into next season. Outside of JUCO transfer Jake Hubenak, the Aggies have no other quarterback available with experience.

Sumlin has a commitment from the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback for 2017, Tate Martell, but he’s still at least a year out from joining the team.
