Four-star safety KJ Jarrell committed to Arizona State on Wednesday, giving the Sun Devils 14 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

Todd Graham’s staff has to be feeling great about the momentum it’s building. With National Signing Day set for Wednesday, the Sun Devils have picked up some major pieces of their class, and the latest addition came on Wednesday.

Four-star prospect K.J. Jarrell committed to Arizona State despite holding additional offers from Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Louisville, Nebraska, Notre Dame, UCLA, USC and others.

The Scottsdale, Arizona native is ranked as the No. 28 safety in the  country and the No. 2 safety in the state. He wrote a letter through Rivals to announce his pledge to the Sun Devils, and he even detailed how a desire to stay close to home counteracted his plan to attend USC.

“My plan was to go to USC. We prayed about it as a family, and my dad told me it would be alright if I stay home. When he said it, it just felt right. I didn’t rush out and make any decisions right away. I just knew that could work. The next week reaffirmed that this was a door that was being opened for me,” Jarrell said in his letter.

The 4-star safety explained how his first meeting with Graham helped put the gears in motion.

“My family and I met with him before, in his office, but that was at a time when I was still researching colleges I might be interested in. Being around Coach Graham this last weekend, my family and I got a better understanding of him. I was able to see the person he is away from the football field, and got to know him outside of the business of being a recruit. He gave us more than enough reason to feel comfortable with him, and Arizona State as a destination. It was the first time I felt at home on a visit,” he said.

With the addition of Jarrell, ASU now has 14 total commits in the cycle and sits at No. 39 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.
