The hunt for Jacob Eason in on. Well, it’s been on — ever since Georgia fired Mark Richt.

Since then, it’s been a firestorm of message board threads and he-said-she-said Twitter conversations based purely on the possibility Eason, who’s been committed to the Bulldogs since July of 2014, would flip to the Florida Gators.

The No. 1-rated pro-style quarterback and No. 2 overall prospect, according to 247Sports, took an official visit to Florida two weeks ago. He hosted Jim McElwain and Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier for an in-home visit late last week before taking an official visit to Athens, Ga. this past weekend.

Everyone has his or her own prediction on where Eason is going to play college football next season, and as an early enrollee he’ll reportedly be making a decision this week.

New Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has also been hot on the trail of Eason, trying to retain his commitment. Smart took a trip to Lake Stevens, Wash. to visit the prospect and then welcomed him on campus this past weekend. According to Smart, Eason’s visit went very well.

“I think his visit went great this weekend. I would like to think it did,” Smart said on Monday.

Georgia lost a commitment from four-star quarterback Bailey Hockman Monday morning, but luckily for Smart, there’s still time to regain a commitment from Hockman, who’s in the 2017 class.

Obviously, holding onto Eason would take some of the pressure off though, and it would put Georgia in a position to re-tool instead of re-build.
