October 24, 2016 Kentucky vs. Missouri prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the matchup between the Wildcats and Tigers.
When: Saturday, October 29 – 12:00 p.m. ET
Where: Faurot Field, Columbia, MO
TV Broadcast: SEC Network
Kentucky is coming off a big 40-38 win against Mississippi State as kicker Austin MacGinnis nailed a 51-yard field goal as time expired to send the Wildcats to a 4-3 record. Missouri, on the other hand, was upset at home by Middle Tennessee, dropping the Tigers to 2-5 on the season.
The offense looked competent in the win on Saturday, as backup quarterback Stephen Johnson threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns while the rushing duo of Benjamin Snell Jr. and Boom Williams combined for 227 yards on the ground. It was a breakout for a unit that averages just 26.7 points per game.
The defense was shredded on the ground, giving up 281 rushing yards including 107 yards and two touchdowns to Bulldogs quarterback Nick Fitzgerald. They will face a different threat in Missouri’s Drew Lock, who is more of a pocket passer but can run when needed.
Running the ball and keeping pressure off of Lock will be key for the Tigers. In the loss to Middle Tennessee, running back Damarea Crockett was the man, rushing for 156 yards and four touchdowns while Ish Witter added 121 yards on the ground as well.
The defense has been getting destroyed the last three games, giving up a combined 133 points during the three-game losing streak. Stopping the run has been a problem, as the Tigers are No. 106 in the nation, allowing 218.86 yards per game on the ground.
Offense: Tie. Both offenses put up the points last week …
Defense: Tie. …while the defenses couldn’t stop anyone.
Special Teams: Kentucky. MacGinnis has been solid (9-for-11) on field goal attempts this season.
Coaching: Tie. Is this the season Stoops finally gets Kentucky to a bowl game?
Intangibles: Kentucky. Now at 4-3, the Wildcats are looking for a strong finish.
Boom Williams vs. Missouri run defense
Stoops says his running back has the ability to take it to the house at any time..
Spread: Missouri -3.5
Over/Under: No line as of posting
This could be another high-scoring affair as both defenses have had the hardest time stopping the opposition from getting into the end zone. The last-second win against Mississippi State has the Wildcats believing that they can finally pull out the close games in conference play. That will pay off as Stoops’ team gets the job done once again in the fourth quarter and get ever so closer to that magical sixth win. Kentucky wins by three.
Kentucky vs. Missouri Prediction: Kentucky 38, Missouri 35
