The No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats will host the Florida Gators in Rupp Arena on Saturday for an SEC rivalry battle.

The Wildcats (16-6, 6-3 SEC) are reeling as of late, having lost two straight games against Kansas and (most recently) Tennessee. Kentucky was up 34-13 late in the first half, but the Vols ferociously fought back to find themselves tied at 70 with a little over five minutes remaining. The Vols took the lead on a Robert Hubbs III free throw and hung on down the stretch to complete one of the biggest comeback wins in school history. Kentucky gave away this one by sending Tennessee to the line 34 times to which the Vols converted 30 free throws (88.2 percent). The Wildcats received strong efforts out of their backcourt in a losing effort as Jamal Murray (21 points) and Tyler Ulis (20) each hit the 20-point mark to lead Kentucky.

The Gators (15-7, 6-3 SEC) have been trending upward as of late, having won their last two games and five of their last six. Last time out, Florida knocked off Arkansas, 87-83, on Wednesday night. This one was close and came down to the final seconds as Jabril Durham hit a three-pointer to pull the Hogs within two points. KeVaughn Allen was subsequently fouled with six seconds left and he drilled both free throws to put the game on ice for Florida. The Gators held the advantage in field goal percentage (51 percent) and got to the line 36 times, where they converted 83.3 percent. Dorian Finney-Smith continued his tear for Florida, posting his fourth 20-plus-point effort in his last five games (22 points) and pulled down nine rebounds.

Saturday’s matchup will be the 135th between Kentucky and Florida with UK holding the 97-37 edge all-time. The Gators are hoping to spurn the Wildcats three-game winning streak in the series.

    Prediction

The Wildcats are wounded and the Gators can smell blood. Kentucky and Florida are two teams headed in separate directions, but can the Gators come out of Lexington, Ky. victorious? Can’t see it happening. Kentucky has been a disappointment this season, but the one place they’ve played well is at home. Expect Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray to kick it into another gear in front of the Rupp Arena faithful. The Cats will outlast the Gators for a much needed win.

    Game Notes
