    5 Keys to the Schedule

    – Southern Miss isn’t a layup to start the season. The Golden Eagles will have enough of an offense to more than challenge a Kentucky team that could need a little bit of time to retool. New Mexico State and Austin Peay are easy, but closing out at Louisville will be a battle.

    – The Wildcats get their permanent interdivisional game against Mississippi State at home, but there’s no worse possible break than having to play Alabama on the road. It’s going to make for a rough start to the SEC season.

    – The Florida and Tennessee games are on the road. Throw in that road trip to Alabama, and that could all but end any SEC East shocker dreams before they start. The Georgia game is in Lexington, though.

    – There isn’t a bad run of road games, alternating home and road dates throughout the season. Unlike most SEC teams, there isn’t a stretch of three road games in four weeks, or anything like that.

    – WATCH OUT FOR … Southern Miss. This is the type of game that could end the season in Week One. With a road trip to Florida to follow, and with South Carolina and at Alabama following the layup against New Mexico State, losing in the opener to the high-octane Golden Eagles would be an absolute disaster.
