Kent State vs. Bowling Green prediction and game preview. The Golden Flashes battle the Falcons in Tuesday night MAC action.

Kent State vs. Bowling Green Game Preview

    When: Tuesday, Nov. 15 – 7 p.m. ET
Where: Doyt L. Perry Stadium, Bowling Green, Ohio.
    TV Broadcast: ESPNU

Two teams that have combined for five wins on the season simply are trying to stay out of the MAC East cellar. Kent State is a game ahead of Bowling Green and Buffalo with a 2-4 conference record, but is coming off a 37-21 loss to Western Michigan last Tuesday.

The Falcons enter with a bit of confidence following last week’s 38-28 win over Akron. They snapped a seven-game losing streak with the victory after being boosted by their best defensive performance of the season.

What To Know About Kent State

The Golden Flashes are just 3-7, but a couple bounces their way and they could be looking at a much better record. Four of those defeats have come by four points or fewer, including the previous two losses prior to the game against the Broncos.

Lack of offensive efficiency has been the biggest issue. Quarterback Nick Holley rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown last week, but he completed just 9-of-21 passes and threw an interceptions. Kent State finished with 293 total yards and ranks 126th out of 128 FBS teams in average yards per game.

What To Know About Bowling Green

The Falcons haven’t been much better offensively. They rank 118th in the country with an average of 4.9 yards per play, and their 28 turnovers are the second-most in the nation. Bowling Green had two more last Wednesday, but Donovan Wilson and Fred Coppet both went over 100 yards and combined for three touchdown runs against Akron.

BGSU finally ran into a team that had worse turnover issues as it forced six Zips miscues. The 374 yards allowed were its fewest of the season while leading from start to finish.

Offense: Even – Both teams have trouble moving the ball, but at least Kent State has protected it better, committing only 12 turnovers.

Defense: Kent State – It ranks first in the MAC in yards allowed per play at 5.05.

Special Teams: Bowling Green – The Golden Flashes rank second-to-last in the conference in yards allowed per punt return.

Coaching: Even – Paul Haynes is just 12-33 while in his fourth season at Kent State. Mike Jinks is struggling in his first season as a collegiate head coach.

Intangibles: Bowling Green – The Falcons won last year’s meeting, 48-0, for their third straight victory in the series.

    Matchup To Watch

    James Morgan vs. Jerrell Foster

Morgan, Bowling Green’s redshirt freshman quarterback, has thrown at least one interception in all nine games he’s played and has 13 on the season. Foster will be out to add to his interception total that stands at three, although all of his picks have come in Kent State losses.

    Betting Odds

    Spread: Kent State -2.5
Over/Under: No Line as of post

Kent State vs. Bowling Green Prediction

The Golden Flashes force four turnovers – including three interceptions – and Holley runs for 130 yards with two touchdowns. The Falcons make it interesting, but Kent State ultimately hangs on with a late defensive stand.
